Trump Names Next Steps For U.S. After Iran Refuses To Negotiate

Tehran has suspended talks with the US to protest Israeli military action in Lebanon.

The United States will maintain the blockade of Iranian ports if Iran refuses to negotiate, White House President Donald Trump said in an interview with NBC News.

In his conversation with the channel, the US president noted that Tehran did not inform him of its decision in advance. At the same time, he emphasized that Iran's refusal to negotiate does not mean the resumption of military action "It doesn't mean we're going to go and start dropping bombs everywhere," he said.

The Iranian Tasnim news agency reported earlier that Iran had suspended talks with the United States in protest against Israeli military action in Lebanon. The agency noted that Iran has repeatedly spoken about the need for a ceasefire in Lebanon and the withdrawal of Israeli troops, "and there will be no dialog until the views of Iran and the resistance are satisfied."

A ceasefire declared in early April is in effect between the US and Iran. Later, US President Donald Trump extended it indefinitely until a special order. Despite this, the sides exchanged strikes in early May. At that time, the US struck the port of Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island, while Iran attacked three US destroyers - USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta and USS Mason. Trump called the skirmish an "affectionate kicking" and Iran considered the incident a truce violation.

On the morning of June 1, Donald Trump said on his Truth Social media page that Iran does want a peace deal beneficial to the U.S. and its allies.
