A Russian lawmaker and general let slip what happened in 2014.
Journalist Denis Kazansky drew attention to recent statements by Russian State Duma deputy General Andrey Gurulev, which were made during a Russian broadcast. His admissions concerned the events in Donbas in 2014.
In the published video, Kazansky shows how Gurulev explicitly confirmed the participation of Russian military personnel in combat operations in eastern Ukraine as early as the first years of the war.
This clearly contradicts years of statements by the Kremlin and Russian propaganda claiming that the Russian regular army was not involved in the events in Donbas.
Particular attention should be paid to the episode in which Gurulev mentioned Russia’s shelling of a facility where civilians were present. Moreover, the deputy took responsibility for that incident himself.
Kazansky believes that such statements can be interpreted as an admission of war crimes by the Russian Federation. According to the Russian lawmaker, even the residents of Donbas themselves were shocked at the time that the Russian army was killing civilians.
