The U.S. Secretary of State issued a critical statement directed at the communist regime.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury has imposed sanctions on Cuba’s state-owned oil company, Union Cuba Petroleo (CUPET), according to a statement published on the department’s website.

CUPET has been added to the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List—a registry that includes individuals, legal entities, and organizations with which U.S. citizens are prohibited from conducting business.

“We will continue to undermine the communist regime’s ability to use its energy trade to advance its corrupt agenda and brutally suppress the Cuban people,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote on X.

In early June, Washington imposed sanctions against Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, and a month earlier—against 11 Cuban officials, including the country’s communications minister and several military commanders.
