Lukashenko Delivered Some Bad News To The Brother Of The KGB Chairman

The status of the organization he heads will be significantly downgraded.
On June 11, Lukashenko announced the likely transfer of the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Fauna and Flora to the Ministry of Natural Resources: until now, it had reported directly to Alexander Lukashenko.
Commenting on the appointment of Maksim Lysenko as Minister of Nature and Environmental Protection (the former minister is currently in pretrial detention), the president noted that in the past he had been concerned about the situation with poaching, but now there are “many animals” in the country.
“There is no need to place this agency (the State Inspectorate for the Protection of Flora and Fauna—ed.) directly under the president, because we have order there,” Lukashenko stated.
His intentions spell bad news for the head of the State Inspectorate Yuri Tertel, who happens to be the brother of KGB Chairman Ivan Tertel, writes "Solidarnast".
People had long suspected they were related (both were born in the village of Priluki in the Grodno region, one year apart), and in 2025, “Belsat” confirmed their brotherhood.
Yuri Tertel has headed the State Inspection since 2018. In the summer of 2022, during a private conversation with a former security official, Lukashenko stated that State Inspection employees must be ready, if necessary, to “take up arms.”
But now the agency’s status will be significantly downgraded. The head of the Belarusian Hunting and Fishing Association Igor Shunevich will surely be pleased with this news: there should be less oversight of hunters and anglers.
