Explosions and shelling in Nizhnekamsk.
On the morning of June 12, an air raid alert was issued in the Republic of Tatarstan, part of the Russian Federation, due to a threat from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Drones attacked the city of Nizhnekamsk, located more than 1,100 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, according to "Focus".
After a series of explosions, smoke rose in several places in the city, and strikes on a local facility. OSINT channels reported the attack.
Analysts write that the SIBUR plant may have been the target. According to open sources, the facility is considered one of Europe’s largest petrochemical plants, specializing in the production of synthetic rubbers, plastics, and base polymers. The company’s main facilities are located in Tatarstan.
Another monitoring channel specified that the facility likely targeted in Nizhnekamsk was Nizhnekamskneftekhim, part of the Russian holding company SIBUR.
Analysts also note that Russian air defense attempted to counter the attack using electronic warfare (EW) systems. However, as a result of these actions, a residential high-rise building was hit, and a fire broke out on the upper floors of the building.
