The politician became the oldest American leader in history.
Today, U.S. President Donald Trump is celebrating his 80th birthday. He has already become the oldest American leader in history.
When he was elected U.S. president for the second time in 2024, Trump was already 78 years old. In doing so, he broke the record set by his predecessor Joe Biden, who was elected president at the age of 77.
No Upper Limit
The U.S. Constitution contains restrictions only regarding the minimum age required to be elected president—35 years. There is no upper age limit.
Therefore, if Trump serves out his presidential term until the end, until January 2029, he will be 83 years old by that time. In doing so, he will once again break Joe Biden’s record, who was 82 years old when he left office.
For comparison, the youngest U.S. president Theodore Roosevelt (1901–1909) took office at the age of 42.
