The studio held about 100,000 costumes and three million pieces of clothing.
On the night of June 15, Russian forces attacked the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio in Kyiv, destroying Ukraine’s largest and oldest costume collection. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister for Humanitarian Policy and Minister of Culture Tetyana Berezhna, writes unian.net.
“Yet another extremely grave crime committed by the Russians against Ukrainian culture. Russia attacked the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio in Kyiv. One of the oldest film studios in Ukraine,” she wrote.
According to the official, a fire broke out, damaging the costume workshop and other buildings on the film studio’s grounds.
“Ukraine’s largest and oldest costume collection has been destroyed. The studio housed about 100,000 costumes and three million pieces of various clothing,” Berezhnaya noted.
She emphasized that rescue and emergency services are working at the site, and efforts to address the aftermath of the attack and ensure safety are ongoing.
“Russia continues to deliberately target not only civilian infrastructure and civilians, but also cultural institutions that preserve Ukrainian identity, memory, and history. The destruction of cultural centers is an attempt to strike a blow against the memory, history, and identity of the Ukrainian people,” the minister added.
