The Russian Foreign Minister stated that the Belarusian regime is an "ally" of the Kremlin.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow fully understands the position of Minsk, which calls itself an “ally” of Russia but is not participating in the war against Ukraine. The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry told reporters this, according to TASS.
“We have a very clear position. We fully understand the approach that Lukashenko has outlined: Belarus is our ally, but Belarus is not participating in the war,” Lavrov said.
The minister also recalled the Belarusian dictator’s reaction to possible attempts to “drag” Minsk into the conflict. “If they want to drag it in, Alexander Grigoryevich has already responded to that: ‘It won’t be enough,’” Lavrov noted.
Earlier, Lukashenko stated that the state is always preparing for war, but does so in order to prevent future conflicts.
During his meeting with Lavrov, Lukashenko stated that against the backdrop of “various kinds of violence,” Moscow and Minsk are following a previously outlined strategy, with foreign ministries leading the process. He acknowledged, however, that in certain situations, the defense ministries “take the lead.”
In May, Lukashenko stated that his regime could go to war if its territory were attacked.
