The media released the document.
Washington and Tehran have agreed on a draft memorandum of understanding that is intended to put an end to large-scale military confrontation. The document contains 14 key points and is set to be officially signed this Friday.
This was reported by Charter97.org, citing a report from Al Arabiya English.
Immediate ceasefire and reopening of sea lanes
The main condition of the agreements is a complete and permanent ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanese territory. The parties undertake to refrain from any hostile acts, threats, or use of force against one another.
Immediately after signing, the restoration of logistics will begin:
The U.S. commits to lifting the naval blockade of Iran within 30 days and restoring shipping volumes to pre-war levels.
Iran undertakes to clear the waters of mines and guarantee the safe passage of merchant ships from the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman.
Withdrawal of troops: The Pentagon will withdraw its forces from regions adjacent to Iran within 30 days of the final treaty being signed.
$300 billion and the lifting of sanctions
A separate section of the memorandum is devoted to Tehran’s economic recovery. The U.S., together with its regional partners, has committed to developing a large-scale plan for the reconstruction of the Iranian economy with guaranteed funding of at least $300 billion.
In addition, Washington has agreed to fully lift all primary and secondary sanctions against Iran. This applies to both unilateral U.S. restrictions and resolutions of the UN Security Council and the IAEA Board of Governors. Until the sanctions are fully lifted, the U.S. Treasury Department will issue special licenses for the export of Iranian oil and petrochemicals, as well as for banking services. Tehran will also gain full access to all of its frozen assets abroad.
The Fate of the Nuclear Program
Iran officially confirmed in the text that it will never develop nuclear weapons. Until the final agreement is signed, the status quo will remain in effect:
“Iran will freeze the development of nuclear technology at its current level, and the U.S. promises not to impose new sanctions or increase its military presence in the region,” the agreement states.
The parties plan to settle all details regarding the fate of already enriched materials during the final stage of negotiations, which will last a maximum of 60 days. The final agreement must be approved by the UN Security Council through a binding resolution.
As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump previously officially announced the end of hostilities between the United States and Iran. According to him, the Strait of Hormuz is already opening to civilian vessels, as Washington has lifted the blockade on the Iranian fleet, and Tehran, in turn, has pledged to cease all attacks on oil tankers.
The historic signing of the peace agreement is scheduled to take place this coming Friday in Switzerland. At that time, Trump emphasized that discussions on the future of Iran’s nuclear program would begin as soon as the ceasefire is legally formalized. At the same time, the American leader set a strict condition: the U.S. is prepared to immediately resume military action if Tehran refuses to comply with nuclear disarmament requirements during subsequent rounds of negotiations.
