Macron: Trump Agreed That Russia Had No Serious Intention Of Negotiating

Efforts by both the United States and EU countries to engage in dialogue with Russia have proved futile.

U.S. President Donald Trump agreed with the G7 leaders that Russia had shown no serious willingness to engage in peace talks.

This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron, according to Charter97.org, citing a post by the Élysée Palace on X.

“It has been several months since the Americans took the initiative, and I would like to commend them for that. They stated that they would negotiate with Russia because they are able to do so,” he noted.

Macron added that he would like to commend the U.S.’s efforts to establish a dialogue with Russia, but these efforts have yielded no results, nor has there been a response from the aggressor country. The French president noted that European leaders have also united to negotiate with Russia.

“What happened? Nothing. And then Zelenskyy (Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy—Ed.) also said: ‘I’m ready, too. I’m ready to hold full-fledged negotiations with Russia to reach an agreement with it.” What did Putin say? “No. I won’t come. Or you must capitulate first,” Macron emphasized.

The French leader stated that Trump agreed with the G7 leaders “that there was no serious desire on Russia’s part to engage in peace talks or negotiations of any kind.”

“We all agreed that Ukraine had put up much better resistance than some had feared, and that Russia found itself in a difficult position. And we all agreed that we would step up our support for Ukraine,” he commented on Zelenskyy’s briefing on the situation at the front.
