The U.S. Department of the Treasury has imposed new sanctions against individuals and companies linked to Cuba. This is according to a notice posted on the website of the department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Among those subject to the restrictions is the wife of Alejandro Castro Espín—head of Cuba’s National Security Council and son of Raúl Castro. In addition, sanctions were imposed on companies in the logistics, metallurgy, and finance sectors linked to the Cuban government.
Alejandro Castro Espín himself was added to the U.S. sanctions list in early June. Along with him, the country’s president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, his wife, and three other individuals were sanctioned. Furthermore, sanctions were imposed on Cuba’s Ministry of Defense, the Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, the tourism organization “Amistur Cuba,” and the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution.
