Belarus's Ambassador To Russia Complains About Problems With Sales Of Our Goods

The regime cannot sell "BelG" cars in Russia.
There are problems in trade with Russia, and some Russian projects simply hinder the promotion of Belarusian products in the Russian market. This was stated by the Belarusian ambassador to Russia Yuri Seliverstov.
For example, Belarusian factories cannot participate in Russian import substitution programs, as these programs require a certain level of local production. One company that has suffered as a result is the “BelGee” plant, which manufactures cars—it has been barred from accessing the Russian taxi market.
“The introduction of requirements for vehicles used in taxi services starting in March of this year has effectively cut off the Belarusian ‘BelGee’ plant from this important market segment. Other measures are also being taken aimed at so-called ‘whitening’ the economy, which, on the one hand, protect our market from unfair competition from third countries, but on the other hand, create obstacles for Belarusian exporters,” BelTA reports the diplomat’s complaints.
Seliverstov also complained that Russia is launching a number of large-scale projects similar to those in Belarus: “Dubious production facilities with low localization are being set up, which are, in essence, hidden channels for imports from third countries. In this regard, we must direct our joint efforts first and foremost toward the development and modernization of existing enterprises—manufacturers of products for which there is insufficient production capacity within the ‘Union State’—rather than toward the creation of new, duplicative, and often redundant production facilities.”
