Here's what the organization said.

On June 29, at the request of Belarus, the UN Security Council convened an emergency meeting dedicated to the attack on bus carrying Belarusian children in the Bryansk region of Russia. The UN condemned any strikes against the civilian population and civilian infrastructure, but stated that it does not have its own information about the circumstances of the incident, according to "Zerkalo".

Belarus requested that a meeting be convened on June 26. Russia supported the initiative. The reason was an alleged drone attack on June 17, which, according to the authorities of Belarus and the Russian Federation, damaged a bus carrying Belarusian children.

The UN Deputy Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Marta Pobi reported that, according to information provided by the authorities of Belarus and Russia, a pregnant woman was killed in the strike, and nine others, including six children, were injured. She emphasized, however, that the UN has no independent confirmation of these figures.

“We strongly condemn all attacks on the civilian population or civilian infrastructure,” Poby said.

She reiterated that such attacks are prohibited under international humanitarian law and must cease immediately.

Poby also noted that this is already the seventh Security Council meeting on Ukraine in the past six weeks. According to her, the scale of Russian strikes has recently intensified, and the UN is once again calling on the parties to seek a diplomatic resolution to the conflict in order to prevent its further escalation.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Anna Evstigneeva, stated that Moscow considers the incident to be a “deliberate terrorist act against civilians.” She claimed that the drone belonged to Ukraine and that Russian authorities had identified the operators who were controlling it.

The Russian side also criticized the UN for refusing to explicitly condemn Kyiv, accused the organization of applying “double standards,” and vowed to continue its “special military operation” in Ukraine.

As a reminder, on June 17 in the Bryansk region, according to statements by Russian authorities, a drone struck a bus carrying Belarusian children were traveling. Six people were injured, and a pregnant woman—the wife of a coach at the Rechitsa Children’s and Youth Sports School No. 2—was killed.

The Investigative Committees of Russia and Belarus have opened criminal cases.

Late in the evening on June 17, the Belarusian children returned home to Rechitsa. On the morning of June 18, six injured people were transported to Belarus by ambulance.

“All the children are doing well, and their parents are with them. The adult patient remains in stable condition. Routine clinical care is being provided, and the necessary medical assistance is being administered,” the Ministry of Health reported on June 25 regarding the condition of the victims.

The Ukrainian General Staff denies any involvement in the strike on the bus, emphasizing that “during the specified period, the Ukrainian Armed Forces did not use unmanned aerial vehicles against targets in the Bryansk region.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also stated that Ukraine was not involved, citing the conclusions of international experts. He expressed confidence that this incident was a provocation by the Russian side aimed at dragging Belarusians into the war.
