General Syrsky reported this.

Since the beginning of 2026, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have managed to liberate more than 670 square kilometers of the country’s territory from Russian invaders.

This was stated in an interview with TSN by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi.

During his conversation with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, journalist Yevhen Plinsky noted that, despite regular predictions of a Russian spring-summer offensive, the actual statistics point to cautious optimism. In particular, data for May indicate that the pace of de-occupation of Ukrainian territories has accelerated significantly.

Sirsky explained that the current advance by the Ukrainian Armed Forces is the second phase of a unified plan by the military command, in which every step was calculated in advance.

“The 2025 campaign was precisely designed to gradually wear down the enemy’s main forces, increase their losses, and prevent them from continuing their offensive on all operational-strategic fronts—which, in principle, we have managed to achieve,” — emphasized the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Thanks to the fact that the offensive capabilities of Russian forces were undermined in a timely manner and their reserves were depleted by prolonged defensive battles, Ukrainian defenders gained a tactical window of opportunity to conduct their own offensive operations.

“These actions have helped the Defense Forces shift to active operations on certain fronts since the beginning of 2026. As a result, more than 670 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory have been liberated since the start of the year,” Syrsky concluded.
