A coalition of 15 countries will participate in the mission.

Britain and France have finalized plans to lead a multinational demining mission in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Bloomberg was told by knowledgeable interlocutors.

According to five people familiar with the talks, military planners from many countries are in the final stages of preparing to join forces to clear the strait of sea mines.

Three of the interlocutors say the demining mission will involve a coalition of 15 countries that have already committed military personnel and resources.

They say they are likely to join the mission a few weeks after it begins to reassure commercial vessels, and while planning is largely complete, they are still looking for additional equipment, particularly support vessels.

The interlocutors stressed, however, that the deployment of the force would not begin until an agreement between the U.S. and Iran that would restore full and unimpeded commercial shipping rights, as well as create favorable conditions for military resources in the strait.

They also noted that the British- and French-led mission would be ready to liaise with Tehran on operational issues.
