Due To The Fuel Crisis, Hotel Reservations Are Being Canceled En Masse In Crimea

Sevastopol saw the sharpest decline.

From May 24 to June 6, the number of hotel reservations in occupied Crimea fell by 31% compared to the same period last year. Sevastopol saw the sharpest decline, with reservations dropping by 40%. This was reported by the Russian publication "Kommersant" citing data from the Travelline hotel reservation management system.

At the same time, tourists are canceling their planned vacations en masse. According to Travelline, 79% of bookings in Crimea and 71% in Sevastopol have been canceled over the past two weeks.

According to the publication, this is due to the fuel crisis that recently began in the region. Because of restrictions at the local airport, tourists had planned to travel to the peninsula in their own cars or by bus.

“No one wants to get stuck because of fuel problems,” stated the management of the “Pink Elephant” travel agency network.

Due to a sharp drop in sales, Crimea has dropped out of the top 10 most popular tourist destinations in Russia: the peninsula now accounts for only 1.5% of all sales, and instead, Russian vacationers can choose the Black Sea resort of Anapa in the Krasnodar Krai, writes Kommersant. At the same time, this will depend on how long the fuel crisis on the peninsula lasts.
