The Lukashenko regime refuses to extradite him.

Polish investigators have identified the migrant who fatally stabbed a soldier Mateusz Sietek through a fence on the Polish-Belarusian border in May 2024. According to unofficial information from the radio station RMF FM, the suspect is currently in Belarus.

In December, a request was sent to Minsk for the suspect’s arrest and extradition to Poland. To date, the Belarusian authorities have not responded to this request. Due to the lack of a response, the investigation was suspended in May.

It is unlikely that Belarus will extradite this man to Poland, sources familiar with the investigation told an RMF FM correspondent. According to these sources, if the man were sent to Poland, he would be questioned during interrogation, in particular, about how he ended up in Belarus.

In November 2024, reports emerged that the attacker had managed to flee to Western Europe and had been spotted in France and Belgium.

There was also information that the Polish soldier was killed by a Moroccan citizen. This was reported by a migrant who had illegally crossed the Belarusian-Polish border and applied for international protection. Polish authorities have not officially commented on this information.

Mateusz Sitek, a 21-year-old soldier with the 1st Warsaw Tank Brigade, died on June 6 at the Military Medical Institute in Warsaw from a wound sustained on May 28 while on duty.

At that time, a group of about 50 migrants was storming the border. They behaved aggressively, pelting border guards with tree branches, sticks, and stones. One of them had a knife attached to a stick. He used it to strike a Polish soldier through the fence. A female colleague began to administer first aid to him, but the migrants attacked her as well. Sitek was hospitalized, but despite the doctors’ efforts, they were unable to save him. The moment of the fatal injury was captured on surveillance cameras, which made it possible to create a composite sketch of the killer and identify him with the help of other migrants.
