Lebanon's President To Israel: We Want Peace

Ending the war could be a step toward a just peace.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, in an interview with CNN, issued a direct appeal to the citizens and leadership of Israel, stating that it is impossible to ensure the safety of residents in northern Israel through military means, writes newsru.co.il.

“We are tired of war. We want peace. The Lebanese people deserve peace and dignity, so that their homes are not destroyed every five to ten years,” said the head of state.
Lebanon and Israel are conducting direct negotiations mediated by the U.S. Attempts have been made to arrange a meeting between Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Lebanese president stated that such a summit would only be possible after an agreement to end the war is reached.

Aoun emphasized that at this stage, the focus is specifically on ending hostilities, not on a peace agreement. “But ending the war could be a step toward a just and lasting peace,” the politician said.
