His name has not yet been officially disclosed.
The explosion car in Balashikha may be the fourth successful assassination attempt on a Russian lieutenant general behind enemy lines since the start of the war. Several Russian Telegram channels reported that the deceased driver of the BMW X3 held the rank of lieutenant general. His name has not yet been officially disclosed, writes "Dialog".
The explosion occurred on Tuesday morning in the Balashikha area, where Russian military personnel live. This is only about 350 meters from the spot where, in April, the car of Deputy Chief of the General Staff Yaroslav Moskalyk was blown up. According to Russian media reports, a homemade explosive device with a yield of up to 500 grams of TNT equivalent was attached to the underside of the car or may have been located in a vehicle parked nearby.
CIT founder Ruslan Leviev speculated based on video footage that the perpetrator may have waited until the victim’s car was alongside the booby-trapped vehicle and then remotely detonated the device. If the victim’s rank is confirmed, this will be another blow to the Russian special services. Following previous assassination attempts, the FSB announced increased security for high-ranking military officials, but yet another explosion occurred in virtually the same area.
Earlier, Lieutenant Generals Igor Kirillov, Yaroslav Moskalyk, and Fanin Sarvarov had already been killed in the Russian rear. In addition, an assassination attempt was made in Moscow on GRU Deputy Chief Vladimir Alekseev, but he survived.
