Flights From Gomel To Border Regions Of Russia Are Being Canceled

Following the drone attacks on buses.
Fleet No. 1 of the “Gomeloblavtotrans” company announced that, effective July 12, bus service on the international route “Gomel – Novozybkov,” which departs from the “Gomel” bus station at 6:30 a.m. on Mondays and 11:30 a.m. on Sundays, will be canceled. This route was launched recently—on May 10, 2026.
The reason has not been disclosed, but it was reported by "Flagstok" discovered it by calling the bus company on behalf of a passenger. They confirmed the cancellation of the routes and explained that the suspension of transport service to the neighboring border region of Russia was due to economic unfeasibility—low passenger occupancy rates.
As journalists discovered after reviewing the bus schedule, only private carriers—entrepreneurs and companies, and exclusively Russian ones—will now operate routes from Novozybkov to Gomel and back.
Some buses go to Novozybkov, while others travel to Bryansk and Kursk via this district center.
Incidentally, there are no longer any regional trains between Gomel and Novozybkov—the only way to reach the Russian district center by rail is on a passing train, which costs twice as much as the bus.
Using the ticket sales service, you can see that the route from Gomel to Novozybkov isn’t very popular, but there is still some demand. For example, on July 10, two hours before the 3:00 p.m. bus departure, about 20 tickets had been purchased, while roughly half the seats were empty.
As a reminder, there have recently been two incidents involving Belarusian buses have occurred, which were reportedly damaged by drone explosions.
