Washington is demanding guarantees of safe passage for ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. and Iran have agreed to continue negotiations despite the recent escalation in the Strait of Hormuz. The United States is seeking public assurances from Tehran regarding the safe passage of ships.

This was reported by CBS News.

According to the publication, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi arrived in Oman on Saturday, July 11. Mediators from Oman, Qatar, and Pakistan are attempting to organize a four-way conference call while the Iranian foreign minister is in Muscat.

According to media reports, the U.S. delegation to the talks is expected to be led by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as well as Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.

However, the Iranian side states that the meeting will not take place until Washington “backs down from its positions.” At the same time, U.S. officials note that contacts over the past few days have been productive.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed Washington’s readiness for dialogue but set a strict condition.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue ‘negotiations.’ We agreed to this, but the United States has made it unequivocally clear to them that the ceasefire is OVER!” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
