In memory of Senator Lindsey Graham.

U.S. President Donald Trump supports the adoption of a bipartisan package of sanctions against Russia in connection with its aggression against Ukraine, which was initiated by the late Senator Lindsey Graham. This was reported on July 13 by CNN, citing a White House spokesperson.

On July 10, during a visit to Kyiv, Graham stated that the U.S. presidential administration had agreed to support the sanctions bill.

However, at that time it was unclear whether Trump himself would support the bill, as the U.S. president had repeatedly insisted on greater flexibility in imposing sanctions.

According to CNN, Trump’s support could speed up the bill’s passage in the Senate.

U.S. Senate Republican Majority Leader John Thune said on Monday that the White House had worked closely with Graham on the sanctions bill. In an interview with CNN, he expressed hope that the bill would be passed.

Thune also noted that in the final days of Graham’s life, the sanctions package was “his most important achievement, and it will certainly be an incredible legacy for him.”

The bill provides for the possibility of imposing tariffs on countries that purchase Russian oil, gas, and uranium.
