They were being taken to a prayer service to pray for an end to the fuel crisis.
A portion of the relics of Saint Prince Alexander Nevsky, sent to the front lines in the spring at the initiative of Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, was destroyed in a drone attack. This was reported by the Telegram channel “Kremlin Snuffbox”.
According to the channel, the relic had been used since the summer to hold prayer services aimed at overcoming the fuel crisis—in particular, to unblock fuel supplies to Crimea.
As a source in the Ministry of Defense told the publication, the military was transporting the relics by truck to a site of strategic importance to the self-proclaimed “DPR,” where a prayer service was planned to overcome the fuel crisis in Donbas and throughout Russia. On the way, the vehicle came under attack by several drones.
According to the channel’s source, the relic was completely lost, and three officers were killed during the attack.
The Ministry of Defense, the source claims, now fears a possible conflict between Belousov and Patriarch Kirill—this is not the first religious relic to be lost on the front lines. Last year, as a result of shelling, part of the relics of Saint Matrona of Moscow were lost; these had also been sent to the front lines on the defense minister’s personal initiative.
“We hope God will not abandon us. But right now the mood is very low, very gloomy. We believe that, no matter what, new holy relics will arrive at the front,” added the publication’s source.
