The Salavat Petrochemical Complex, one of the largest in Russia, suspended operations on Tuesday following an attack by Ukrainian drones. This was reported by Reuters citing industry sources.

The plant is located in Bashkortostan in the Urals. The local governor confirmed the attack but stated that the complex would resume normal production within a few days. Meanwhile, sources cited by journalists report that both primary refining units, as well as some secondary units and other equipment, were damaged and shut down.

The Salavat complex produces gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, and other petroleum products, as well as liquefied gases, butyl alcohols, polyethylene, polystyrene, and ammonia. It is noted that in 2024, the plant accounted for about 2.7% of Russia’s total refining volume.

It was previously reported that following a series of Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries, oil refining volumes in Russia fell to their lowest level in more than 21 years. Due to the decline in production, Russian authorities banned the export of most types of diesel fuel and maintained restrictions on the sale of gasoline and jet fuel.
