A Key Lawmaker From Ukraine's "Servant Of The People" Party Resigned In Protest

Because of disagreement with the personnel policy.

Nikita Poturaev , a member of the Ukrainian Parliament from the “Servant of the People” party , announced that he had submitted his resignation as a member of parliament.

He made this announcement during a plenary session of parliament on Thursday, July 16.

“I ask my colleagues to consider this decision just as urgently as they consider others, which is why I was forced to make this decision,” the MP said.

In a comment New Voice, the MP explained that his decision stems from his disagreement with the coalition’s personnel policy, particularly regarding the Ministry of Defense.

“My decision is not personally related to Mykhailo Fedorov, although, of course, what Mykhailo Fedorov did at the ministry helped us change the situation on the front lines and, obviously, strengthened our positions. My decision is based on more fundamental reasons: I am deeply convinced that the transformation of the Ukrainian army into an entirely new type of army—a process led, in fact, by Mikhail Fedorov—must continue under any circumstances, regardless of who is in charge,” the lawmaker said.

He believes that Interior Minister Igor Klymenko “is in the right place,” just as Fedorov “was in the right place.”

“And if any of the generals are unhappy with what is happening in the army, then perhaps these generals are not in the right positions. We have many young generals who rose through the ranks from the volunteer forces, who fight brilliantly and have experience specifically in modern warfare. I am convinced that there are plenty of people to choose from and appoint,” the MP added.

Nikita Poturaev was elected to the Verkhovna Rada from the “Servant of the People” party in 2019 and chairs the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy.
