In 2016, a Chinese investor bought the hotel.

Ten years after its sale to a Chinese investor, the “Grodno” Hotel has been put up for auction again.

On the “BUTB-Property” online platform, the asking price is 9 million rubles, as noted by Office Life.

The “Grodno” hotel, along with the restaurant of the same name, was built as part of a single complex in 1985. At the time, the 16-story building was designed to accommodate 500 guests. However, 20 years later, the complex was closed because it did not meet safety requirements.

In 2016, a Chinese investor purchased the hotel with the intention of turning it into a modern hotel. Under the terms of the tender, he was given four years to do so. However, the project turned into a long-term construction project.

In February 2024, it was reported that the renovation of the “Grodno” Hotel had been extended until the end of 2024. At that time, a Chinese businessman was still overseeing the project and had not reneged on his obligations. Meanwhile, Vladimir Karanik, who was then the governor of the Grodno Region, did not rule out the possibility that, in the worst-case scenario, another investor would be found for the project.

A new auction is scheduled for July 18. However, the requirements for a potential owner have remained virtually unchanged over the past 10 years. The investor must develop a project plan within one year and complete the renovation within three years.
