A U.S. Nuclear-powered Attack Submarine Has Arrived In Europe

The USS Oregon, a U.S. Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarine, arrived at the Faslane Naval Base in Scotland.

The visit is part of the submarine’s scheduled deployment within the U.S. Sixth Fleet’s area of responsibility. During its stay in Faslane, the submarine will undergo scheduled maintenance and replenish its supplies.

In addition, the crew will be able to rest after a long deployment at sea and experience the local culture.

Commander of Task Force 69, Captain Doug Suttler, thanked the British partners for their support and hospitality.

“The special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom is based on shared values, mutual trust, and a common commitment to maritime security. Our long-term partnership with the Royal Navy is crucial to maintaining peace and stability in this region,” he said.

The U.S. Navy noted that, thanks to their autonomy, stealth, and endurance, Virginia-class nuclear submarines are capable of carrying out missions for extended periods in various regions of the world, ensuring a continuous naval presence.

Currently, the USS Oregon is conducting a series of operations within the U.S. Sixth Fleet’s area of responsibility, supporting U.S. national security objectives and promoting operational interoperability with NATO allies and partners.

The U.S. Sixth Fleet is headquartered in Naples, Italy, and its forces conduct joint maritime operations to support security and stability in Europe and Africa.
