Now he's running for the State Duma.
Russian propagandist and VGTRK war correspondent Evgeny Poddubny, who has been nominated by “United Russia” for the upcoming “elections” to the State Duma, owns shares in major Western countries, including NATO members. This was reported by "Kommersant" citing candidate declarations published by the Central Election Commission (CEC). The financial disclosures of Poddubny, who is considered one of the journalists closest to President Vladimir Putin, list eight shares of Nebius Group N.V. (Netherlands), four shares of Apple (U.S.), the same number of shares in The Procter & Gamble (U.S.), and one share of Intel Corporation (U.S.), as well as units in the Irish funds FinEx USA Information Technology UCITS ETF and FinEx Physically Backed Funds ICAV.
In 2018 and 2024, Poddubny served as Putin’s trusted representative during the presidential elections. In September 2024, the head of state awarded him the title of Hero of Russia “for the courage and heroism displayed in the line of duty,” following an injury sustained during a Ukrainian drone attack in the Kursk region. In 2022, Poddubny also became a member of the presidential working group on the mobilization and support of participants in the war in Ukraine. For this, as well as for Poddubny’s activities as a military correspondent for VGTRK, the EU imposed sanctions on the propagandist for “spreading disinformation and pro-Kremlin propaganda.” He is also on the “blacklists” of the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.
According to current election regulations, a candidate may not own foreign assets at the time of registration unless there are reasons beyond his control. If a candidate is unable to divest such assets, they are required to notify the Central Election Commission in advance and provide evidence that they have taken all necessary measures to comply with the requirements.
The United Russia press service stated that by the time of registration, Poddubny had “completed all steps to divest himself of foreign financial assets” and had provided the commission with the appropriate documentation.
