On July 28, a strong earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture in southern Japan. According to the latest reports, at least 50 people were injured.

This was reported by Reuters.

As a result of the natural disaster, thousands of homes were left without power, and many roads were damaged.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi stated during a briefing in Tokyo that authorities are still assessing the full extent of the damage caused by the 7.1-magnitude earthquake.

“We are already receiving reports of casualties. Power outages have been reported in several areas, fires have broken out, roads and bridges have been damaged, and some buildings have been destroyed,” she said.

One of the local hospitals reported more than 50 injured. In addition, several passengers on a high-speed train that was in motion during the earthquake were injured.

The natural disaster also damaged a number of buildings. In particular, an explosion occurred at the Aeon shopping center. Some buildings even caught fire, while others were partially destroyed. Aeon has not yet commented on the situation.

Large cracks also formed on several major highways, including one of the overpasses. In addition, a freight train derailed, causing rail service to be suspended, and some flights were canceled.
