Ten companies and eight vessels were subject to the restrictions.
The United States has added ten companies and eight vessels to its Iran sanctions list, according to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury. The restrictions were imposed under Executive Order 13902, which targets financial support for Iran.
The companies subject to sanctions are primarily registered in Hong Kong: Billion Nexus Int’l Co. Limited, Confident Apex Limited, Marinova Freight Limited, Nevada Spirit Company Limited, Qi Hang Ship Management Limited (which also has an office in Shenzhen), and Vast Mighty Limited (which is also registered in the Marshall Islands). Branch Saying International Trading Co., Ltd. and Ocean Tranquility Limited are also registered in the Marshall Islands. In addition, the list includes two Iranian entities—Hormuzsafe Marine Services Authority and Persian Gulf Marine Insurance Company.
At the same time, the sanctions affected eight tankers. The restrictions apply to vessels flying the flags of Barbados (Breeze V, Natsumi, and Yehope), Vanuatu (Cristal and Nireta), Mozambique (Lily, also known as Danya), the Marshall Islands (Well Sail), and one vessel of unknown flag (Al Salmi, which previously flew the Panamanian flag). All of them are classified as oil tankers.
The United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18, but the exchange of strikes resumed later. U.S. President Donald Trump stated at the NATO summit that the ceasefire had ended, and then reported that Tehran had proposed continuing negotiations. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) denied this information.
After hostilities resumed, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to shipping until the U.S. military presence in the region was ended. In response, the U.S. reported strikes on Iranian air defense systems and IRGC vessels, after which the exchange of strikes continued.
