In Russia, Gas Stations Will Be Guarded By Cossacks

The situation is heating up.

Staff members from the city administration, the police, representatives of the Cossack community, and volunteers from sports and community organizations have begun manning shifts at gas stations in Anapa. This was reported by the resort city’s mayor’s office press service on its Telegram channel.

According to city authorities, the personnel on duty help direct traffic, ensure order is maintained, prevent conflicts, and prevent attempts to fill jerry cans with fuel. City officials noted that these measures are aimed at streamlining and optimizing the operations of gas stations.

In Russia in June of this year a massive shortage of gasoline and diesel fuel arose, caused by the Ukrainian Armed Forces intensifying their strikes on Russian oil refineries. Russian refineries supply fuel to the Russian military, and Moscow spends the money received from oil exports to continue the war against Ukraine. Consequently, refineries in Russia are legitimate targets for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Due to fuel shortages, most regions in Russia have imposed limits on fuel sales. Prices for gasoline and diesel are rising. Conflicts over fuel are breaking out at some gas stations.
