Russians Flocked To Kazakhstan For Gasoline

The authorities have banned canisters.

Kazakhstan has imposed restrictions on fuel purchases by Russians—fuel canisters are now banned. This was reported by the publication Ulysmedia.kz, citing a statement by the country’s Minister of Energy Erlan Akkenzhenov.

Russians have been flocking en masse to neighboring countries to buy gasoline amid the fuel crisis. Akkenzhenov confirmed that regions bordering Russia have recently seen increased demand for fuel.

To protect its domestic market, Kazakhstan has imposed restrictions: at local gas stations, fuel may only be purchased for a vehicle’s fuel tank, not for jerry cans or other additional containers. The country’s Ministry of Energy issued a corresponding decree.

“I don’t see any issues here. (If—ed.) a person arrives and fills up their car’s standard fuel tank, then, of course, there’s no problem,” the minister commented on the situation.

Earlier, Kazakhstan stated that it was ready to consider fuel supplies to Russia, but only if two conditions were met: an official request from Moscow and the availability of surplus fuel volumes in the country for export.
