Russian authorities found that a runway was missing at Domodedovo.
On July 3, it was reported that in Russia, the former head of Rosaviatsiya Alexander Neradko had joined the list of disgraced officials; he was detained by law enforcement on suspicion of fraud.
According to The Insider, the prosecutor’s office requested that Neradko be sent to a pretrial detention center, and the court agreed, placing the official under arrest.
Neradko’s deputy, Konstantin Makhov, also ended up behind bars; he is suspected of embezzling approximately 800 million rubles during the construction of a runway at Domodedovo. The project began in 2014 and was scheduled to be completed in 2016; it was estimated to cost 12.85 billion rubles. The company “SU-1,” which was responsible for the construction of Runway 2, halted work in 2018, and in 2019 declared bankruptcy and was liquidated.
Neradko faces up to 10 years in prison; details of the criminal case are unknown. He had headed Rosaviatsiya since 2009. In 2022, several of his subordinates were dismissed on suspicion of bribery. In 2023, Alexander Neradko was removed from his post; on September 16, he was replaced by Dmitry Yadrov.
