The signing of the relevant documents took place in a solemn atmosphere.
Andrzej Pachołat , a former political prisoner, journalist, and activist with the Union of Poles in Belarus , and his family have chosen Białystok as their home. In turn, city authorities accepted Andrzej’s application and are providing him with the necessary housing. The signing of the relevant documents took place on July 28 in a festive atmosphere at the Brancik Family Guest House in Białystok, according to "Radio Racja".
Speakers include Andrzej Pachołat and representatives of municipal and provincial authorities:
Andrzej Pacobut: I would like to thank the President and everyone who was involved in this matter, who treated my family so kindly and provided me with housing. Thank you all!
Tadeusz Truskalski: We were happy to do it. And the fact that Andrzej Pachołat chose Białystok is a great honor for us. I’ll mention that there was competition, because other cities also offered housing, but they were farther from the eastern border, from the diaspora that lives here.
Jacek Brzazowski: I’m moved by what’s happening right before our eyes. Just recently, we gathered at the monument to Father Jerzy Papaluszka, demanding that Andrzej Pachołt be set free. And today, as a free man, he stands here with us.
Katarzyna Kiselewska-Martyniuk: We will support Mr. Andrzej. He will have the opportunity to carry out his activities here. Welcome to Białystok!
Andrzej Pachołt was arrested in Grodno on April 25, 2021. In February 2023, he was sentenced to 8 years in a maximum-security prison. While in prison, in 2025, he was honored in Poland with the Order of the White Eagle and the European Parliament’s Sakharov Prize “For Freedom of Thought.”
At the end of April of that year, he was summoned on short notice and taken from Belarus to Poland.
