The new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapaty has ordered a temporary halt to the recruitment of personnel for the Army’s assault regiments.

This was reported by “Ukrainska Pravda” citing its own sources in four assault units. According to the publication’s sources, as of July 26, assault units can no longer receive personnel from reserve battalions or territorial recruitment centers, nor can they accept transfers from other units.

“We can no longer take people from the reserve battalions or territorial recruitment centers,” said one of the soldiers. Another source reported that, by order of the Commander-in-Chief, the “supply of personnel to assault units and subunits of the Ground Forces” had been suspended.

Transfers of service members from other units to assault regiments have also been temporarily banned. The only exception so far applies to service members who are returning after deserting their units through the mechanism provided by the “Army+” app.

This decision marks the first time that the high command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has restricted the ability to continuously expand assault units.
