Latvia Has Closed Its Border With Belarus

  • 31.07.2026, 21:54

The Latvian Minister of the Interior made this statement.

Latvia closed its border with Belarus today, July 31, for “technical reasons.” This was reported by reported Latvian Minister of the Interior Jānis Dombravs.

Dombrova urged citizens who are still in Belarus to return to Latvia via alternative routes.

It should be noted that yesterday the Latvian minister advised Latvian residents not to plan trips to Belarus, citing potential safety concerns amid a “hybrid war waged by Belarus.”

To date, only one border crossing point has remained open between Belarus and Latvia.

The decision was made amid a rise in the number of attempts by migrants to illegally cross the Belarus-Latvia border.
