Zelenskyy revealed the details.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that China has, for the first time, responded firmly and categorically to statements from Russia regarding the possible use of nuclear weapons.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this remark in comments to reporters following the NATO summit in Turkey on Thursday, July 9, according to New Voice.
According to the head of state, Beijing’s role in Russia’s war against Ukraine and its potential influence on the negotiation process were discussed during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. At the same time, Zelenskyy did not provide any details of that conversation.
The president also noted that the topic of China came up during his talks with European leaders. They reported that Beijing had reacted sharply to statements circulating in the Russian media regarding the possibility of using nuclear weapons.
“China reacted very seriously, very firmly, and unequivocally to the statements appearing in the Russian media regarding the possibility of using nuclear weapons. [...] And it seems to me that for the first time, they responded very clearly and firmly—as the leaders told me, in no uncertain terms: the use of nuclear weapons is out of the question,” he said.
In mid-May, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, together with the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, conducted joint exercises on the “combat use of nuclear weapons” — involving land-, air-, and submarine-based delivery systems. To this end, Russia even transported some of its munitions to storage facilities on Belarusian territory. Both dictators ostentatiously gave the launch commands.
The exercises took place amid statements from Kyiv that Moscow is attempting to actively draw Minsk into a war against Ukraine.
