On Friday evening, July 31, a fire broke out at the Nizhnekamskneftekhim chemical plant in the Republic of Tatarstan, which is part of Russia. This was reported by Dialog.UA after monitoring social media.

Sibur, the company that owns Nizhnekamskneftekhim, confirmed that a fire broke out on its premises. According to preliminary information, the fire was not caused by strikes from Ukrainian drones. The cause of the fire is being investigated. A special commission has been established for this purpose.

By 10:16 p.m., the fire at the chemical plant in Nizhnekamsk had been contained. The fire was completely extinguished on the night of August 1. It is currently known that the fire broke out on a polystyrene production line that was in the process of being shut down “due to external factors.” No one was injured as a result of the incident.

“Sibur” claims that the damage is allegedly “minor.” Ukrainian defense forces regularly carry out airstrikes on military and strategic targets in Tatarstan. However, no air raid alert was issued in this Russian region on the evening of August 31. This means that the fire at the Sibur chemical plant is most likely unrelated to attacks by Ukrainian UAVs.
