A High-ranking Collaborator Was Arrested In Crimea

The so-called law enforcement agencies of annexed Crimea have detained Oleg Kozura , the head of the Sevastopol branch of “Voin,” an all-Russian public organization for military veterans with disabilities , according to the Sevastopol news portal ForPost. A source within law enforcement told the publication that he is suspected of extortion and, according to some reports, robbery. Kozura is being held in a pretrial detention center in Simferopol.

A second source told ForPost that businessmen from Feodosia had filed complaints about extortion by a group of people that included Kozura. Presumably, one of the extortionists was carrying a firearm.

Oleg Kozura is the former head of the Sevastopol Regional Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine; he held that position since 2010. He subsequently headed the Sevastopol Office of the State Migration Service of Ukraine. In 2010, the online newspaper “Meridian Sevastopol” referred to Kozura as the “godfather” of Ukraine’s then-Minister of Internal Affairs Anatoly Mogilev.

After the annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol in 2014, Kozura began cooperating with the Russian authorities. Specifically, he headed the Sevastopol Office of the Federal Migration Service of Russia and served as chief of staff of the city’s Legislative Assembly. Kozura is included on the sanctions lists of the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, and other countries.
