Ukraine Blew Up The Massive "Neftekhim" Plant In Tobolsk

Ukraine struck the petrochemical giant "ZapSibNeftekhim" in Tobolsk, which is part of the "SIBUR" holding company. The strike struck the central gas fractionation unit (CGFU), after which a major fire broke out at the facility with multiple sources of ignition.

Published videos show black smoke and intense flames.

Operations at the facility were immediately shut down: pressurized hydrocarbon gases were urgently vented into flares to reduce the risk of a more serious accident at the units. The video shows a combined effect: smoke from the fire itself and intense flaring caused by the emergency venting of gas.

One of the eyewitnesses in the video also claims that a column at the Central Gas Processing Facility is on fire.

ZapSibNeftekhim is one of the largest oil and gas chemical complexes in the world and, according to SIBUR itself, the leader in the production of basic polymers in Russia. An attack on such a facility is significant not only because of the fire but also because of the potential disruption of production chains related to the processing of hydrocarbon feedstocks and the manufacture of chemical products.

Tobolsk is located approximately 2,200 km from Ukraine.

This is already the second major strike in a matter of hours. Earlier today, Ukrainian drones struck the “Taneco” oil refinery owned by “Tatneft” in Nizhnekamsk. Local authorities reported 13 dead and 75 injured, 21 of whom were hospitalized.
