An Underground Tunnel Has Been Discovered For The First Time In Latvia, On The Border With Belarus

The country is launching Operation "Vilkatis."

An underground tunnel has been discovered for the first time in Latvia, near the border with Belarus. This was reported by Interior Minister Jānis Dombravs, according to LSM.

The Minister of the Interior reported that border guards discovered a group of foreigners who had entered Latvia illegally.

“While trying to determine more precisely how they entered our country, we found this hidden tunnel—the first of its kind in Latvia so far,” said Dombrova.

The official added that he had ordered an investigation into the possibility of scanning the ground along Latvia’s external land border, as well as other measures—to determine whether this is the only tunnel or if there are others.

The Minister of the Interior also announced on Facebook that the country is launching Operation “Vilkatis,” during which security along the country’s eastern border will be strengthened, including the use of drones to detect and apprehend border violators.

As a reminder, earlier three underground tunnels leading from Belarus had already been discovered in Lithuania.
