U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that, due to the threat from Iran, he secretly flew on a different plane while returning from the July summit in Ankara. He stated that he was instructed to do so by the Secret Service, according to Fox News.

The Washington Post, citing citing sources, reported that Trump left Turkey after the NATO summit as part of a carefully planned covert operation—rather than in accordance with protocol—to avoid an assassination threat from Iran. According to the publication, Trump was hidden in a food delivery van at the airport and then secretly transported aboard a military aircraft.

According to the publication, Trump initially appeared before television cameras next to an old Boeing 747 that had previously served as Air Force One. However, shortly thereafter, he was transferred to another aircraft—a U.S. Air Force C-32A.

Thus, the old Air Force One effectively served as a decoy for journalists and administration staff.
