In the temporarily occupied city of Sevastopol, on Stoletov Avenue an explosion occurred, which, according to preliminary reports, killed the former commander of Ukraine’s only submarine, the “Zaporizhzhia” Robert Shageev, reports UNIAN.
According to Z-Channels, the man was walking down a staircase on the street when an explosive device detonated nearby. Russian propaganda outlets claim that the device may have been planted in a trash can and also report the arrest of a woman who allegedly set off the explosive.
According to the “Crimean Wind” channel, a former military submariner was killed in an explosion in Sevastopol. Subsequently, Russian media outlets reported that Robert Shageev had been killed. This information requires confirmation.
Who is Robert Shageev
As early as March 12, 2014, Shageev publicly declared that the submarine’s crew would remain loyal to Ukraine. According to him, by that point, the Russian side had already demanded several times that the sailors switch sides.
However, on March 21, 2014, the situation changed. The Russian military seized the *Zaporizhzhia*, and Shageev transferred to the Russian Navy. Ukrainian sources subsequently called him a traitor and reported that he was wanted for desertion.
In 2016, Ukrainian media reported that, after defecting to Russia, Shageev had been assigned a command position in the Russian Black Sea Fleet. In particular, “Dumskaya” reported that he became the commander of the diesel-electric submarine B-268 “Veliky Novgorod.”
His name also appeared on lists of Crimean military personnel whom the Ukrainian side considered traitors following the occupation of the peninsula.

“In Sevastopol, the former commander of the Ukrainian submarine ‘Zaporizhzhia,’ Robert Shageev, was reportedly killed. An explosive device was planted in a trash can in a residential area and detonated as two men were walking by. In 2014, Shageev defected from Ukraine and sided with Russia. The man was killed instantly,” reported the Telegram channel INSIDER UA.
The Telegram channel Supernova+ confirmed this information. It added that the person who carried out the bombing was a woman.
According to the Telegram channel 112, which is linked to Russian security forces, the explosion occurred in a park behind a residential complex on Stoletovsky Avenue. According to preliminary reports, the explosive device may have been in a trash can or under a bench. It detonated near Shageev, who died at the scene from his injuries.
According to NV.ua, in 2014 Shageev violated his Ukrainian oath of allegiance, defected to Russia, and became the commander of a Russian submarine.
The Russian Federal Security Service confirmed the death of the Russian servicemember.
“A serviceman of the Russian Ministry of Defense was killed in an explosion in Sevastopol. The woman detained in connection with the explosion was carrying out a mission for the Ukrainian security services,” TASS quoted the security service as saying.
