A Cheap Mazda Turned Into The Most Expensive Ferrari In History

An amazing transformation.
A Mazda MX-5 served as the basis for an interesting project. It was transformed into a replica of the famous Ferrari 250 GTO.
The Ferrari 250 GTO replica is the creation of Modern Custom Classics, a company based in the U.S. The car is currently up for auction at Mecum.
A 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF coupe-convertible served as the base. A completely new carbon-fiber body was created for it: only the doors, windshield, and power-operated folding metal roof remained original.
The car resembles the famous 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO coupe—a successful race car that won the World GT Championship three times. Only 36 units were ever produced, and it is now the most expensive Ferrari model—its price reaches $70 million.
Teardrop-shaped headlights, a tapered rear end, and air intakes on the “nose” and along the sides give the Mazda MX-5 a resemblance to the famous Ferrari.
At the same time, this replica of the Ferrari 250 GTO features all the modern comforts—air conditioning, a camera, a navigation system, and stability control.
While the real Ferrari 250 GTO was equipped with a 3.0-liter, 300-horsepower V12, this replica retains the Mazda MX-5 RF’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 160 k. s. The sports car is equipped with a Borla exhaust system and a 6-speed manual transmission.
