Ukraine Has Proposed A Ceasefire To Russia

Ukraine has conveyed a proposal to Russia through an intermediary calling for a mutual cessation of attacks on civilian targets in the Black Sea. This was reported by Reuters on Thursday, August 13.

According to the agency, in recent weeks Russian forces have been striking grain ships and port infrastructure in the Black Sea. The UN warns that such attacks could significantly affect global food prices this year.

Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stated that Moscow had not received an official proposal for a ceasefire.

“Recently, we have been hearing many calls for various moratoriums and ceasefires. These ideas are being promoted through various channels, but we have not received any official proposals,” Grushko said.

Reuters notes that following the publication of information about a possible proposal from Ukraine, September wheat futures on the Euronext exchange reversed course and fell, cutting short the sharp rise observed earlier that day.

Earlier, on August 8, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reported that Ankara had conveyed a proposal to Russia and Ukraine to impose a moratorium on attacks in the Black Sea.
