Warsaw and Kyiv are finalizing negotiations on the transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine . In exchange, Poland is to receive Ukrainian technology and a large number of various drones.

The negotiations between Kyiv and Warsaw are expected to yield results in the coming weeks, and the old Polish MiG-29s will be sent to Ukraine. This was reported by Wirtualna Polska.

The Polish Ministry of Defense reported that negotiations on this matter accelerated when Rustem Umerov, the former secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, became head of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service. From the very beginning of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, he has been handling the “most sensitive issues” related to negotiations with the Russian and American sides.

The publication reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has tasked Umerov with leading negotiations on agreements regarding drones.

“Poland views this change positively, but without excessive trust,” the publication states.

The Polish side fears that, despite agreements on the transfer of drones, Ukrainian companies may find themselves in an emergency situation due to the war with Russia and refuse to hand over the drones at the last minute.

Earlier, Poland’s Deputy Minister of Defense Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarniecka answered a question about whether Warsaw would transfer Patriot interceptor missiles to Kyiv. She replied that this issue would be decided “at the highest level.” Unofficial sources report that Poland may transfer several missiles to Ukraine.
