Not even the school principal knows who this person is.
Not all philanthropists enjoy the spotlight—some prefer to do good deeds quietly. That’s exactly what one alumnus of High School No. 9 in Pinsk did: he paid for an expensive gift for the school and asked that his name not be disclosed.
Not even the school principal knows who this person is. The only thing that has been determined is that the benefactor graduated from the school about twenty years ago, according to the newspaper “Zarya”.
How It All Began
According to school principal Mikhail Nikolaevsky, the alumnus now lives in another city but periodically visits Pinsk to see his parents. During one of these visits, he decided to stop by his former school—and noticed that the sports equipment had hardly been updated over the years.
The man contacted the principal and offered to address this issue at his own expense. “He called me and said that, after walking around the school grounds, he noticed that the sports equipment hadn’t changed much over the years, and he wanted to fix that. I was a little surprised by the offer, but I welcomed it,” recalls Nikolaevsky.
The Final Result
The benefactor took full responsibility for the rest of the organization: he found the contractors himself and paid for all the work—from preparing the foundation for the area to installing the exercise equipment.
Work began in June, and by August, a fully completed workout area had appeared on the school grounds. The gift cost the alumnus approximately 45,000 rubles—just over 15,000 dollars.
The new exercise equipment didn’t go unused for long: both students and residents of nearby homes quickly took to it. The area is open to the public, so anyone who wants to can work out there.
