Just Like In The USSR: A New Experiment Has Begun Involving Belarusian Schoolchildren

The pilot project will cover virtually the entire country.

Starting September 1, schools in Belarus will launch a pilot project focused on in-depth study of certain subjects, according to BelTA.

The experiment will not involve students in all grades, but only in select ones. This is nothing new; it already existed in the Soviet Union, the propaganda notes.

What’s new for students

Starting in the new school year, eighth-graders will be taught certain subjects at an in-depth level.

This will apply to math, physics, chemistry, and biology. There will be seven lessons per week in each of these subjects.

The project will be implemented in schools in Minsk and all regions.

“Pedagogical support will be provided to the teachers who participate in the program. We have developed appropriate experimental curricula,” said Minister of Education Andrei Ivanets.

He emphasized that this is not a new innovation, but “in fact, a revival of the Soviet experience.”

The Ministry of Education is also developing a program for in-depth study of these subjects.

The curricula tested as part of the pilot program will be approved for advanced-level courses.

During the pilot project, school teachers will be supported by staff from the Academy of Education and the Belarusian State Pedagogical University.
