The Ukrainian Armed Forces' counterattacks have thrown a wrench into Moscow's plans.
The occupying army of the aggressor country, Russia, continues its offensive operations on several fronts. However, to the Russians’ surprise, these operations are being held back by counterattacks from the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
According to analysts at the U.S. Institute for the Study of War (ISW), counterattacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces were recorded in the Oleksandrivka sector. The Ukrainian Armed Forces also repelled an enemy mechanized assault in the Huliaipole sector.
There, the occupiers attempted to attack Ukrainian defenses southeast and south of Vozdvizhevka using mechanized vehicles. Geolocation data indicates that Russian troops have likely captured Yelenokonstantinovka and Zelenoye.
A Ukrainian unit that participated in repelling the assault reported that Russian troops carried out the mechanized assault for several hours.
According to ISW analysts, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during a counteroffensive in the Oleksandrivka sector, liberated 26 settlements in the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
The counteroffensive operations in the Oleksandrivka sector likely had a cascading effect on other sections of the front, forcing Russian troops to choose between defending against Ukrainian counterattacks in the Oleksandrivka sector and allocating manpower and supplies for offensive operations elsewhere along the front line.
