A Mysterious Celtic Settlement Has Been Discovered In The Czech Republic

Archaeologists discovered a sensational gold treasure there.

In the Czech Republic, workers from a road construction company who were conducting a topographic survey in the Bohemia region stumbled upon a 2,200-year-old Celtic settlement, where numerous treasures were discovered—hundreds of gold and silver coins and pieces of jewelry. According to indiandefencereview.com, archaeologists claim that this site, located near Hradec Králové, is among the largest Celtic settlements ever recorded in Central Europe.

The settlement covers 62 acres (25 hectares), which is more than ten times the size of a typical Iron Age settlement in the region, most of which cover only 1–2 acres.

Over the course of two years of excavations, more than 13,000 bags of artifacts were found. Among the items found are gold and silver coins of various sizes, more than 1,000 pieces of jewelry, including brooches and glass beads, mirror fragments, metal vessels, intricately crafted pottery, and Baltic amber beads.

The settlement has no defensive walls, which, according to researchers, indicates that the community was organized around trade rather than military power. It is located on the historic Amber Road, a trade corridor connecting the Baltic and North Seas with the Mediterranean Sea. Raw amber was transported south through settlements like this one before continuing on to Southern Europe.
